No, this isn’t a VPN. Our network tunnels work most similarly to “port forwarding” which only affects network traffic that is talking to the application you’re sharing, not your whole system. Your computer will continue to act just like it did, with no additional latency when you are connecting to other services.
No, Ringbinder works without setting up a virtual network device or changing anything system-wide, so there’s no need for administrative privileges. This also allows power users to create many “machines” in containerized environments, because there’s no need to pass in raw network devices.
We have tested with many games, and haven’t found a single one yet where it doesn’t work. Minecraft, Vintage Story, Factorio, Garry’s Mod, and 7 Days to Die have all been tested directly by us with no issues.
Yes, websites are just TCP servers (with some UDP in HTTP/3) so all websites should work out of the box. Note: some web browsers do not like to connect to unsecured websites, so you may have to set up TLS encryption to use the website how you like. We don’t currently handle setting up TLS for you, but give us a shout if you might want that!
We provide a subdomain to every user for free so you can always have a static, memorable link to your applications. No matter if the underlying IP address changes, if you set your server to be reachable via minecraft.your-domain.userhosted.net, it will always point to where the server is listening.
Free users can have the IP address they are listening on change between sessions. This is why we provide domain names, because those will always remain the same, and will point to the current IP address of your application, wherever it is.
Yes, there will be a little higher latency due to additional distance, depending on how far away you are from the servers we have. Right now we have servers near Washington, DC, and Seattle.
