Word from the founder
Ringbinder was created in order to solve a problem I saw when I was a college student trying to simply play some games with my friends. I wanted to host a game server to play with my online friends, because I wanted to play with my friends, but didn't really have a ton of disposable income to rent a game server. Because all of the networking solutions at the time were either too confusing for me to understand, required configuring the campus network which definitely wouldn't be able to happen, or required having everyone who wanted to play to install a piece of software to be able to connect to the network, it was just too hard to do what I wanted, and we didn't end up getting to play games together. Not fun.
I want to make sure that people can enjoy time with their friends without needing to jump through the nightmare of hoops that can be port-forwarding or configuring enterprise grade networking software. Hosting a game server on your PC shouldn't require a deep knowledge of computer networking and admin control over your network, as long as you can get the application to run correctly, you should be good. The complexities of making sure people can connect to it shouldn't be the massive headache it can be. Now, with Ringbinder, simply letting people connect to whatever you are hosting should be just about the easiest part of the process.
I built this program in order to fix problems I saw, knowing I'm not alone in having that problem. And now I hope I can make you not have that problem at all. This was created by a single, passionate person, and is still run and maintained solely by that same person. There's no corporate shareholders making sure that the line goes up every quarter, no incentives to rug pull or hold you hostage just in order to make sure that the metrics look good for people who don't care about the actual users. This is made for you, and I want it to stay that way.
Company
Ringbinder.io, LLC is the company managing the Ringbinder service. Our goal is to increase the accessibility of self-hosting applications via networking solutions. The project was started in 2024 but formally incorporated to be able to safely provide the infrastructure to the public in 2026.
The Ringbinder service just properly launched, so putting metrics here would look kinda dumb. But we have a few users, and transmit some amount of data per day.
